Portlands Energy Centre (PEC) is a state of the art generating station located in the eastern industrial section of the Port lands in Toronto. PEC provides up to 550 megawatts of power, which is about 25 percent of central Toronto's needs. PEC is unique in its industry as it houses all equipment indoors. This provides a sound barrier allowing this facility to be within close proximity to residential areas. Additionally, this structure provides protection from inclement weather to the equipment itself, and the employees who maintain it and work within it. The water used within the facility is taken from the turning basin on the north side, cleaned and returned to the lake on the south side. This water treatment process is an environmental contribution to the surrounding area.
